KNOW YOUR PREY

I RECOGNIZED his type the moment he first approached me—a typical love-’em-and-leave-’em. His kind swoops in, sweeps you off your feet, fucks you stupid, and before you’ve even had time to gather your wits, they’ve pulled up their pants and zipped their flies at the same time as they rush toward the nearest exit.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I have no problem with being fucked stupid. Rather like swapping roles, actually, when it’s the right guy. The right guy being older and more experienced, just like this guy is—but I want to be memorable. I want to be more than another notch on the bed post. You want to fuck me, you’re going to have to earn the privilege, and you’re damn well going to remember it. Fuck, you’re going to want to repeat it… again and again. Whether I let you is another story….

In the interim, I’ll hunt down for myself some cute, but forgettable, little twink to fuck stupid.


Which is exactly what I’ve been doing all week...

Lily Velden lives on the east coast of Australia, her family having emigrated from Holland when she was a child.

She’s both a left and right brain person, holding qualifications in both Finance and Fine Arts. She tells her friends that her way with numbers will make her a profitable artist and writer… one day.

Lily has always had a love of language and a beautifully crafted sentence, and admits to having a fetish for collecting quotes, poems, and song lyrics. What she won’t admit to is how many notebooks she’s filled with those quotes… Her fascination carries on into her artworks where she often incorporates text. When a shoulder injury slowed down her art practice she decided to explore her love of the written word more fully and began writing. “I’ll paint my pictures with words.”

Not that she’s abandoned artmaking in its entirety—Lily collaborates on the designs for all her book covers.


There are many things Lily loves, here are just a few of the PG rated ones: a good laugh (all the better if caused by a naughty joke), the smell of freshly baked goods and mown grass, a smile from a stranger, rainbows after the rain, and witnessing a promise kept.

         One of the first things I said to Kindle the moment I finished Double Full was, “Please tell me we get to know more about Mitch?” Thankfully she is a woman of her word and now I am lucky enough to have had Mitch in my hands…..get your minds out of the gutter I don’t mean like that….unfortunately. That time in my life was terrible. It's everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness - it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn't a time she wasn't there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It's its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn't be here today without her.

        This book grabbed me from the very first sentence. Not many books can do that, Susan Mac Nicol knows how to weave a story that ensnares the reader to the point they never want the book to end.

In the story there is mystery, intrigue, love, heartache, and yes FEAR. There are points in this book that scared the hell out of me, I actually had to turn off my NOOK and walk away. By the end I was emotionally exhausted, and completely satisfied. That is the way I like a book to end. 

I have said this before, and I am saying it again, there is nothing wrong with hot sex in a story but it can’t be the only thing in the story. Susan knows how to balance the steam with the actual story line. She is an author I highly recommend to anyone. I look forward to reading her next book.

RJ LOOM:      Thank you so much for having me!

 BOE:      Could you tell us a little about your book, The Ilia Stone?

RJL:      The Ilia Stone is a journey of an ancient artifact around the world and throughout time. As well as a journey of self discovery. The story takes place in modern day with glimpses at the lives affected by the ancient artifact throughout history. It is the story of Nia Williams, a college student whose life has been turned upside down by one simple decision and her own curiosity. It’s a mix of romance, history, mythology and even has a bit of humor. Here is the official blurb…

Nia Williams could never have imagined the way her ordinary life would be turned upside down after the death of her grandfather. A chance find unwittingly has her discovering the truth of an ancient Greek myth, plunging her into a world where the legends she only read about in her history books become her reality.

BOE:     How long have you been writing, and what got you started? 

RJL:      I’ve been writing about 5 years. I joined a group of writers out of curiosity really and haven’t looked back. I discovered writing is a creative outlet I didn’t even realize I needed. 

BOE:     Do you normally stay within one particular genre?

RJL:      No, just like I don’t read one particular genre. I go where my imagination takes me.  That’s not to say that later on down the line I won’t decide my writing fits into one genre best. 

BOE:      Where do you find your inspiration? And what comes first for you, the characters, or the stop line?

RJL:       I find inspiration everywhere – in music, the news, conversations with people, pictures and even while driving. 

As far as what comes first, it’s a mix for me. With The Ilia Stone, the story came first but the characters took over. I’ve also had characters pop into my mind and thought that I would love to tell their story. As a reader I love well rounded characters. I think it can make or break a great story. So while writing, I try to make sure that not only is the story interesting, but so are the characters.

 BOE:     Do you have a favorite book/author?

RJL:       I’m an avid reader. So I have lots of favorite books and authors. I’m not sure I could pick just one.

 BOE:      Is there anything coming up in the future you would like to share? Upcoming books maybe? 

RJL:        Right now I’m working on the second book in The Ilia Stone trilogy. I’m also working on a New Adult romance and an anthology with some other great authors through Dead Bound Publishing.
