Restraining Orders, Porn Writing Grannies and Cardboard Brett Farve.....Oh My!!!

What happens when an accountant decides to grab life by the horns and try something new? Apparently a pirate named Dave, a lot of pastel fleece, and blackmail—just to start with...
Leave it to me to wind up in a group of porno writing grannies who discuss sex toys and apple cobbler in the same breath. Also leave it to me to leak an outlandish plot idea to a bestselling author with the morals of a rabid squirrel. And only I could get arrested for a jewelry heist I didn’t commit—by a hunky cop whose handcuffs just might tempt me to sign up for a life of crime. Maybe I’ve found my calling after all...

The other night I had the pleasure of sitting in on a chat with author Robyn Peterman. Before that chat I hadn't the pleasure of reading her book How Hard Can it Be? After a fabulous time listening to her and the hosts talk about the book and the characters I bought the book and held on for one heck of a ride.

OMG!!! I never laughed so hard in my life while reading a book!!! My face would hurt, tears formed in my eyes and dang it I couldn't breathe. There were parts that I wanted to call and tell my sister about but I couldn't stop laughing in order to make the call!! She told me it was a good thing I wasn't reading in public, they would think I was crazy. *laughs*

From the first chapter I was laughing and I was in love with this book. The only reason I had to put it down was because the battery in my Kindle was screaming at me that it needed more juice. (Damn needy thing) I truly love the characters that Robyn has created. And the Granny Porn group sounds a lot like me and my girlfriends in a couple of decades. *grins*

I laughed and was in shock of the tale that is Pirate Dave and His Randy Adventures. It looks as if it will have its own novella soon and the sequel to this one due sometime in December. I am super excited for both.

If you enjoy a bit of mystery, some romance, a lot of laughter, talk of butt plugs and a huge vocabulary for.....well a man's.....YOU KNOW!!!! *falls over laughing*  You need to read this book. I promise you will enjoy it. Just don't forget to wear adult diapers or at least be prepared to change your panties. It's pee in your pants kinda funny.

TEXAS PRIDE BY KINDLE ALEXANDER

Do you like M/M stories? Do you like cowboys? Smokin’ hot sex? If you answered yes to these questions I have just the book for you, Texas Pride. I don’t want to give too much away so here are the basics, caution there are SPOILERS.

This story is about Austin Grainger a mega movie star who buys a ranch in his home town in order to retire and live the quiet life hidden from prying eyes. Next door is an old friend from high school, Kitt Kelly, a sexy cowboy who is trying to save his family’s business. Both men are strong willed, determined, passionate, and living a lie. Neither one has been able to truly be who they are or be with who they want for fear of what others might think. Austin had a woman pretending to be his fiancĂ©, and Kitt keeps his trysts out of town. But once the two men reconnect Austin is determined to have a relationship with Kitt. There are many obstacles the two have to face including the media. But the one that is the hardest, I think, for them is getting Kitt to come to terms with coming out to his family, friends and colleagues.

Now you know some of what the story is about, now if you want  to know the rest you need to read the book. Trust me you won’t be disappointed. I know there may be those who think I am biased, but I know what I like and I happen to love Kindle Alexander. She is an amazing talent, she creates worlds and characters that are both believable and endearing.  For me a big thing in reading any book by any author is I have to fall in love with the characters, I have to care about their story and where they are going. And Kindle Alexander has never disappointed me there. I am looking forward to her next big adventure.

Give me the Black Dagger Brotherhood and back away slowly.

Lover at Last is a BIG Ol’ book. So much was going on. Did I like it? Hell yeah!! Now while I have been waiting on Blay and Qhuinn’s story for a long time, much like many other BDB fans, what made me love this book the most wasn’t their love story. I love the heroics of Qhuinn, the tear jerkin’ moments, the more insight on new and older characters (Lovin me some Shadows!!!), and OMG….. I loved Xcor before but now I’m falling even more in love with this one.

Now while we were promised a full length book and not a novella with Qhuay, with all that is going on at this point with the side stories, it felt like Blay and Qhuinn were given a novella and the rest was just filled in. Don’t get me wrong. I loved the book. I just felt that Blay and Qhuinn were gypped on the transition of their love story. There was a lot of sex going on, hawt sex, but not enough of the emotional transition. Yes, they were best friends. Yes, Blay was in love with Qhuinn before he was and during his time with Saxton. Yes, Qhuinn regretted not saying or acting upon the feelings he had for Blay. But I guess I was just hoping for more of an emotional rollercoaster ride. *pouts*

I did love the side stories going on. So much so that I am left ticked and wondering how long before they are going to play out. HELLO?? How many books did Qhuay go on for before their "HEA"? For those who don’t know yet The King is the next book. Yes it’s a back step toward Wrath. (Many of you know my stance on how authors sometimes leave their first characters in the shadows as they move on through their series. I am looking forward to this.) But now I have to wait a year for that, and then who knows who’s book will be next? (And yes I know the WARDen can’t crank out great books superfast nor would I want her to, but every time I finish a good book I whine that I have to wait a year for the next. *laughs*)

The many side stories got me to thinking about word counts. So I went digging, and bear with me this is all that I could find.

Dark Lover: 118,833
Lover Eternal: 125,574
Lover Awakened: 136,807
Lover Unbound: 159,404
Lover Enshrined: 162,403
Lover Reborn: 199,157
Lover at Last: 199,807

Notice a pattern here? While I get super excited about most of the new character and more insight on the older ones who have yet to get their own story, by the looks of it each book’s word count is getting bigger and bigger. The books not only have a side story or two, there are several going on. So while I was excited that Lover at Last was such a large book, after reading it I realized it was a lot more side stories than Qhuinn and Blay’s story.

With all that being said, I still loved this book. It’s the Black Dagger Brother. It’s hot, tall, muscular, you just wanna lick them, vampires. It’s J.R. Ward. I was drawn into this world with Dark Lover and there is no escaping for me. I’ll continue to read this series until the WARDen decides to end it.

I've Been a Bad Girl

My deepest apologies. I feel I have been a bad girl as I have not been able to post any reviews as of late. Maybe I should be spanked?? *evil grin*  I'm in the throws of school work trying not to drown in essay questions about business ethics, intercultural communications and advertising. I keep telling myself I'm in the home stretch. Just gotta hang on for a bit longer.

I have been reading though. Especially after......Wait for dramatic pause...... winning Julie Kenner's 2nd Generation Kindle loaded with her books on it.!! WOOO FREAKING HOOO!!!  (The ones she has written and some I didn't own yet.) I was able to read her newest book Release Me since I have not been able to find it in stores. I really enjoyed it and I cannot wait for the next one to come out. The release dates for the next two books in this trilogy have been moved up so I am waiting before I write a review. I'm super excited about reading the next two. Damien Stark is just.......YUM!

I am hoping to get a book or two read by this weekend and get a review up but please don't hold it against me. We will also have another giveaway soon. Haven't decided what to include in the next one. Anyone have any suggestions for a particular book you'd like to see in an upcoming giveaway?

So I'm off for now my lovelies there is much work to do and a bitches work is never done. Muwah!!

FROM ROLE PLAY TO PUBLISHED WORKS

Where to start? Well, for me it started two years ago after much pushing by my daughter, my sister (fellow Bitch), and a dear friend I entered the world of Facebook.  I said over and over, why would I want to try it, if I want to talk to friends or family I will use the phone. My sister and our friend told me about how you could read stories written by Role Players based some of our favorite book series. Finally I caved, made my account and I haven’t looked back. I began to follow one group faithfully.  Not only would they post story lines, but they interacted with the fans. In this group were so many talented writers. I could not get over how connected some of them were with the characters they portrayed.  It was as if the character had truly come to live for me, so much that yes on many occasions I giggled and blushed at the comments made by certain characters, you know who you are *winks*.  I am fortunate enough to have become friends with several of these wonderful writers outside of the characters.  Among them there are those who have now ventured off the pages of Facebook out into the world of published works. Today I am going to give reviews on two of the author’s latest releases.

                                    Kindle Alexander’s Up In Arms

In this book you meet Reed Kensington, a worldly lawyer, who while at his brother’s wedding meets Trevor West a soldier. This story not only follows these men’s love affair, which is sweet and sexy, but we also see the after math of how they deal with a tragedy.  I love these boys, how they interact, how they over come, how one of them blushes *sighs*. Sorry I love that!

JT Cheyanne and Venus Moon’s For the Love of a God

Suria is a strong willed, dominate female, until she meets Euro, the son of Aphrodite, goddess of love. Euro who during his existence had nothing more that fleeting encounters with females, lasting no more time than it took to satisfy his lust. Until he sees Suria, together the learn about each other and more importantly themselves.

Kindle Alexander, JT Cheyanne, and Venus Moon are all very talented writers. They can all weave a tale that paints a picture giving you the feeling you are a part of the story.  Please take a moment to check out the links below, I know you will enjoy the books by the wonderful ladies.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!!!!!

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love the way the season makes me feel….what?? Yes I know it’s January. I am well aware that the holiday season is over with but I’m still in the holiday spirit so I’ve been reading Christmas themed books.  *grins*

I have not had the pleasure of reading Debbie Macomber’s books before. My mother gave me many of her Christmas themed books when she was done reading them. With the busy holiday season and taking a break between semesters, I didn’t read as much as I had wanted.  But before classes started back I read both The Perfect Christmas and Trading Spaces.

I have to say I really enjoyed both books. Contemporary romances aren’t usually my forte as I tend to enjoy some paranormal of some sort in my romance if not fully paranormal romance.  Oh and I try my best not to give any spoilers here………………………..

The Perfect Christmas sounded interesting to me as I read the back cover…

For Cassie Beaumont, it's meeting her perfect match. Cassie, at thirty-three, wants a husband and kids, and so far, nothing's worked. Not blind dates, not the Internet and certainly not leaving love to chance.

What's left? A professional matchmaker. He's Simon Dodson, and he's very choosy about the clients he takes on. Cassie finds Simon a difficult, acerbic know-it-all, and she's astonished when he accepts her as a client.

Claiming he has her perfect mate in mind, Simon assigns her three tasks to complete before she meets him. Three tasks that are all about Christmas: being a charity bell ringer, dressing up as Santa's elf at a children's party and preparing a traditional turkey dinner for her neighbors (whom she happens to dislike). Despite a number of comical mishaps, Cassie does it all --- and she's finally ready to meet her match.

But just like the perfect Christmas gift, he turns out to be a wonderful surprise!

What got my attention was “professional matchmaker” and “assigns her three tasks”. Oh yeah it had my attention because all I could think was “there’s going to be disaster”.  One, I laughed so hard through her ‘tasks”, poor woman I felt so bad but laughed so hard at her. Two, I adored her main characters. Their attitude and tension toward each other when they first meet to how they become caring and considerate even though they are off limits to each other.

BTW, I also love the tenant who listens to the loud rap music. Ha!!

Now on to Trading Christmas.

Emily Springer, widowed mother of one, decides to leave Leavenworth, Washington, to spend Christmas with her daughter in Boston. Charles Brewster, history professor, curmudgeon and resident of Boston, wants to avoid Christmas altogether. He figures a prison town should be nice and quiet over the holidays ? except he's thinking of the wrong Leavenworth! Through an internet site, Charles and Emily arrange to swap houses for the holiday. So Emily goes to Boston and discovers that her daughter has gone to Florida. And Charles arrives in Leavenworth to discover that it's not the prison town ? it's Santa's village! The place is full of Christmas trees, Christmas music and...elves. Meanwhile, Emily's friend Faith Kerrigan travels to Leavenworth to visit her and instead finds Charles the grinch. Then Charles's brother, Ray, shows up at his home in Boston to discover that he isn't there ? but Emily is. Through all the mix-ups and misunderstandings, amid the chaos and confusion, romance begins to emerge in unexpected ways. Because everything changes at Christmas!

No I have not had the opportunity to watch the Hallmark adaptation of this book. I’m intrigued now. This is truly a comedy of errors. Love every minute it. I have to say my favorite thing about this book is how each of the “couples” open each other up. Not just to the holiday season but cause them to venture out of their comfort zone or their shell if you will and become whole again when they didn’t realize that they weren’t.

In a way this reminded me of The Holiday, you know the movie with Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black and Kate Winslet. But no worries Trading Christmas was originally published in 2004 as When Christmas Comes and The Holiday was released in 2006, so no copycatting there. I just reminded me with the whole “trading homes” thing.  Darn…..rambling again.

So even though the holiday season is over I’m sticking with it for a bit longer. I have a few more, ok a dozen or so, Christmas themed books that I have stacked up and plan on reading to keep me in that holiday mood. Now I feel the need to bake some sugar cookies, put a turkey in the oven or heck even drag the tree back out!!  And you think I’m joking…..*laughs*

Heart of Atlantis by Alyssa Day

****SPOILERS POSSIBLE!! I will try my best NOT to give too much away, but proceed with caution!!! And remember this is MY opinion****

I finally got the chance to sit down and read Alyssa Day’s latest book Heart of Atlantis. It is the final installment in her Warrior’s of Poseidon series. I stumbled upon the first book in the series, Atlantis Rising, while shopping at a small used book store near my home in 2009. The word Atlantis is what caught my eye; I love any story revolving around Atlantis or the Arthurian legends. I took the book home and read it in a day, only problem was the used book store didn’t have the next books, which at the time there were 4 books in all. I normally try to buy used since I read through so many it can get expensive to always buy new. This is one of those times I didn’t care. I went looking at new and used bookstores. Of course once I found them I read straight through the remaining books, and have done so with the each of the four following books. I really enjoyed the series over all. It has of course larger than life Atlantean warriors, vampires, shifters, and ancient gods just to name a few supernatural beings. The bases of the story is that Atlantis still exists protected in a magical dome after having been sunk 1000 years ago. The Prince of Atlantis, Conlan, is the reluctant heir to the throne. The prince’s brother Ven, along with Lord Justice, Alexios, Brennan, Bastien, Christophe, and Denal are the elite Seven warriors, they with Conlan protect humanity from vampires, and even from themselves. During the course of their individual stories they have to hunt for Poseidon’s trident and gems along with meeting their would be mates, which means forbidden love (my favorite!), love with the impossible, untimely love…well you get the point, the kind of love that if they truly want it they will have to fight to be together…*sighs dreamily*

Heart of Atlantis is Alaric and Quinn’s book, whom you first meet in Atlantis rising. Their story has played out throughout the series. In the beginning I didn’t like Alaric much; I don’t think we are supposed to. I will admit during Atlantis Rising, for some bizarre reason I pictured him in my head like Jafar from Disney’s Aladdin (My apologies to Alyssa Day!!! LOL) I don’t know why I think it was the stiff way he spoke, but as time and the story moved on I changed my opinion of Alaric. From this stiff, gruff, arrogant ass to loyal, selfless, caring funny man…yes I said funny. The banter between Quinn and Alaric had me laughing out loud several times in this book. Which is a quality I love in any book. Quinn is first seen as a hard ass solider with a high wall around her heart, slowly we get to see a different side of Quinn, and what made her the was she is. I don’t want to give too much away about the plot of this book, just know that this series is well written, full of action, adventure, humor, HOT sex, and lots of love. So worth checking out.
